Passenger Pick-up/Drop-off at OAK’s Terminal 1 First Curbside Relocated Temporarily

Press Releases
June 13th, 2007

Traffic Lanes Adjacent to Terminal 1 First Curbside Closed Temporarily for Pavement Reconstruction - Moderate Delays Expected.

Travelers and other Oakland International Airport (OAK) users are advised of lane closures scheduled on airport roadways. The closed sections of roadway will be clearly marked, traffic enforcement will be maintained, and detour signs will redirect motorists. Moderate delays are expected.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, the drop-off/pick-up vehicle parking area and three traffic lanes adjacent to the Terminal 1 first curbside are closed temporarily to allow contractors to reconstruct this portion of roadway. The traffic lanes will remain closed for approximately an eight-week period.

Passenger drop-off and pick-up is relocated to a portion of the newly constructed second curbside. The closure does not affect pedestrian access on the first curbside and between the terminals and the Hourly and Daily parking lots.

The construction activity is related to OAK's $300 million Terminal Improvement Program, which includes improvements to all airport roadways and curbsides. Begun in 2004, the Terminal Improvement Program is designed to add convenience, security and customer service to the travel experience by using "green building" technology. In Terminal 2, the program includes the recently opened seven-gate concourse, food court and shopping area, passenger screening area, baggage claim and in-line explosives detection baggage screening system. By summer 2007, expanded ticketing will open. Once completed in 2008, the program will comfortably accommodate the needs of OAK's over 14 million annual passengers.

OAK has over 200 flights a day on 13 domestic and international carriers to 41 nonstop destinations, including Atlanta, Boston, Columbus, Fort Lauderdale, the Hawaiian Islands, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Mexico and seasonal service to the Azores (Portugal), Sun Valley, Idaho and Vancouver. OAK is a revenue division of the Port of Oakland, an independent department of the city of Oakland. OAK has served the travel needs of San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors for 80 years.
