Oakland, Calif. – September 25, 2021: Oakland International Airport (OAK) is partnering with KQED as a key sponsor of “KQED Live,” a year-long innovative multimedia series of events that kicks off tonight at 7PM featuring Oscar, Emmy and Tony award-winning actress Rita Moreno and a preview of the new PBS documentary “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.”

“KQED Live” is a new groundbreaking series of interactive community events that brings journalism to life onstage, amplifies local culture and builds community. Hosted in KQED’s newly reimagined San Francisco headquarters, the multiplatform program makes the mission of public media tangible through affordable and free live programs offered in-person and accessible online.

“Oakland International Airport is proud to sponsor ‘KQED Live.’” says Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “These unique and innovative events reflect the rich culture, diversity, creativity and ingenuity that is apparent throughout the Bay area.”

Oakland International Airport has been a partner of KQED for over a decade, sponsoring television shows such as “Check Please! Bay Area,” “KQED News” on radio, and various other programming and live events. KQED audiences across all platforms are based largely in the East Bay and many event speakers feature East Bay notables such as Rita Moreno and the Fantastic Negrito. It’s natural for Oakland International Airport to partner with KQED on this innovative and unique format in their new studio space.

"Our mission is to inform, inspire and involve," says KQED CEO and President Michael Isip. “‘KQED Live’ will provide an inclusive space for personal, participatory experiences that enhance civic and cultural vitality as well as cultivate a sense of community. ‘KQED Live’ will also elevate diverse Bay Area community voices and stories, adding fresh context to our reporting and programs in an informative and entertaining way.”

Tickets for events are available at kqed.org/live. To help ensure the safety and wellbeing of attendees, staff, and partners, “KQED Live” events this fall will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for entry. And attendees will be required to wear face masks in compliance with local public health guidelines at the time of the event.
