OAKLAND, Calif. — SunTrips has moved its flights to Hawaii to Oakland International Airport, consolidating San Francisco Bay Area departures for all of its vacation tour packages at Oakland.

SunTrips offers eight-day trips to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Kona and Molokai, with six flights a week in the spring and eleven flights a week from June though August. Customers may purchase air transportation only or complete packages.

The company also moved its Mexico program from San Francisco International Airport to Oakland last year, and its Portugal program was relocated in 2000. Seven flights a week go to Mexico year round, while the Azores trips operate from May through September.

"SunTrips is one of a growing number of carriers recognizing that Oakland is the most convenient location to the growing residential communities of the San Francisco Bay Area," said Steven Grossman, director of aviation at Oakland International Airport. "In addition, we have fewer weather-related delays than other Bay Area airports."

SunTrips is owned by My Travel Company plc, the largest air-inclusive tour operator in the world, and is a key part of the company's North American Leisure Group. For more information and reservations, call SunTrips at 1-800-SunTrips (786-8747) or visit the Web site at http://www.suntrips.com.

Oakland International Airport served 11.4 million passengers and handled more than 600,000 metric tons of air cargo in 2001. Oakland International has nearly 200 flights a day on 11 domestic and international carriers to 32 nonstop destinations, including the Hawaiian Islands, the New York area, Atlanta and Mexico. The airport is a revenue division of the Port of Oakland.

Oakland International is the only Bay Area airport with a dedicated shuttle bus that meets every Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system train at the nearby Coliseum station. On-airport parking rates are $18 a day in the long-term lot and $15 a day in the economy and overflow lots.
