Oakland International Airport Launches FlightReplay Website pages for Noise Management Program

Oakland, CA, November 22, 2002 -- San Francisco Bay Area residents can now access information on flights originating from Oakland International, San Francisco International and San Jose International on Oakland’s new Bay Area FlightReplay web site pages. Information on flights originating from the smaller, general aviation airports in the area may also be accessed.
To access the new pages, go to the airport’s home page at www.oaklandairport.com, then click on FlightReplay on the toolbar at the top of the page.
The purpose of this tool is to enhance the information provided by the airport’s Noise Management Program by giving web site visitors access to the general location and traffic flow of Bay Area flights. Flight and radar data that is reported on FlightReplay comes from the Federal Aviation Administration and can be retrieved for up to 30 days.
Web site visitors can get detailed information about a flight by simply clicking on the Bay Area map graphic, then clicking on their community, and providing day and time information. FlightReplay displays the flight number, aircraft type and altitude of each aircraft in flight over the highlighted map area and tracks it until it is out of Bay Area air space. The program also displays in decibels actual aircraft and community noise levels.
"Bay Area residents have a dynamic tool to get information about aircraft flying over their communities," said Carole Wedl, noise management officer for Oakland International Airport. "The beauty of the FlightReplay feature is that it enables web site visitors to literally pinpoint flight traffic by date and time over their homes by maneuvering through up to ten layers of increasingly detailed graphics."
FlightReplay was designed by Lochard Corporation-USA and Oakland International is the first U.S. airport to use this program.

It was the first airport in the San Francisco Bay Area and the second in California to meet the state’s noise requirement that airports achieve a zero noise area impact in surrounding communities.
