Mexicana Airlines Inaugurates New Nonstop Flights to Mexico City from OAK
-- Carrier Also Adds New Service to Mexico Beach Destinations --
Oakland, Calif. - Mexicana Airlines recently inaugurated nonstop service between Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Mexico City (MEX). This new service marks the first time that OAK has had nonstop flights to MEX. Additionally, Mexicana recently added nonstop and one-stop flights between OAK and the popular beach destinations of Cancun (CUN), Los Cabos (SJD) and Puerto Vallarta (PVR). Service from OAK to SJD was inaugurated in January and will resume in March.
"For the first time, convenient travel is now available from Oakland International between the business centers of the San Francisco Bay Area and Mexico's capital. Mexicana has been a long-time tenant of the airport with flights to Guadalajara and Zacatecas, and is now investing in its future at Oakland by adding important new service to Mexico City," said Steve Grossman, director of aviation for the Port of Oakland. "Also, with Mexicana's new service to Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, travelers to these beach destinations have more choices from Oakland."
The twice-weekly OAK-MEX nonstop flights operate as follows:

Mexicana also introduced new service from OAK to SJD in January. The flights are not operating in February, but are scheduled to resume in March.
In addition to new MEX, CUN, PVR and SJD service, Mexicana operates nonstop flights from OAK to Guadalajara and Zacatecas. Mexicana flights operate from OAK's Terminal 1.

OAK has over 200 flights a day on 12 domestic and international carriers to 39 nonstop destinations, including Atlanta, Boston, the Hawaiian Islands, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Mexico beach cities, and seasonal service to the Azores (Portugal), Costa Rica and Sun Valley, Idaho. OAK broke ground on its Terminal 2 improvement project in April 2004. This $110 million project, to be completed by fall 2006, includes construction of a new concourse with five additional boarding gates and waiting areas; a modern, centralized food, beverage and retail shopping area; expanded ticketing, security and baggage claim facilities; and new utilities.
