Double-daily Southwest Airlines flights between OAK and Bellingham begin

Press Releases
November 5th, 2021

Southwest is the top carrier to the Pacific Northwest with six nonstop destinations from the East Bay gateway

Oakland, Calif. – November 5, 2021: On Sunday, November 7, Southwest Airlines will start flying nonstop between Bellingham, Washington (BLI) and Oakland International Airport with two daily flights using Boeing 737 airliners.  It is the sixth destination in the Pacific Northwest from OAK for the carrier and the second added this year with service to Eugene that started August 29th. Now with a half dozen destinations in this important region for business and leisure travel, Bay area travelers can Fly the East Bay Way across the region nonstop on Southwest Airlines like never before. The schedule also allows Bellingham customers a plethora of connections at OAK to Southwest’s growing list of destinations across the US and Mexico, including five destinations in Hawaii.

  • Northbound:
    • Depart OAK at 10:30 AM, arrive at BLI at 12:45 PM
    • Depart OAK at 7:00 PM, arrive at BLI at 9:20 PM
  • Southbound:
    • Depart BLI at 6:00 AM, arrive at OAK at 8:15 AM
    • Depart BLI at 3:10 PM, arrive at OAK at 5:25 PM

Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington are known for abundant nature, outdoor adventure and sweeping scenery from the Salish Sea to Mt. Baker and North Cascades National Park. Visitors enjoy farm to table menus, craft brews and a vibrant arts scene. Bellingham is also the ideal gateway to the San Juan Islands, an archipelago in Washington state also known for rural Pacific Northwest landscapes and wildlife. Horseshoe-shaped Orcas Island, one of the main isles, is home to Moran State Park's old-growth forest and Mt. Constitution. San Juan Island is distinguished by the lively seaside town of Friday Harbor and Lime Kiln Point State Park, an orca-whale lookout.

Bellingham International Airport (BLI) is located just 20 miles from the Canadian border and less than an hour and a half drive from downtown Vancouver, BC.

Other existing routes in this region offered by Southwest include Eugene and Portland in Oregon, Seattle and Spokane in Washington, and Boise, Idaho.

“Bellingham marks the eleventh new nonstop destination that has launched or re-launched at OAK since the beginning of 2021. This new destination, its sixth in the Pacific Northwest, positions Southwest uniquely in the East Bay as the top carrier to this important region from the airport that is closer to most Bay area residents and employers.” says Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “Also, especially meaningful for those traveling to or from Bellingham, is that OAK enables easy, more reliable flight connections for those flying Southwest across the US, including Hawaii, and Mexico.”
