OAKLAND, CA, June 1, 2001 -- Delta Air Lines today launched twice-daily nonstop transcontinental service between Oakland International Airport and Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport. Flights will operate from Gate15 in Terminal One.
"Delta Air Lines' expanded service from Oakland International Airport is great news for San Francisco Bay Area travelers who are looking for convenient, on-time transcontinental service to Atlanta without the hassle of weather-related delays," said Steve Grossman, director of aviation for the Port of Oakland, the owner/operator of Oakland International Airport. "Airlines such as Delta Air Lines realize the market potential of Oakland International. The airport has grown to more than 190 daily nonstops as compared to 164 in 2000, with new long-haul service to the Hawaiian Islands, the New York area, and now Atlanta."
Oakland's passenger traffic is up 12 percent for the first quarter of this year and the new Delta service will help propel the airport toward a projected 12 million passenger milestone in 2001, added Mr. Grossman.
Delta Air Lines will use 176-seat Boeing 757 aircraft configured to a two-class service with 20 seats in First Class and 156 seats in Economy Class.
