Construction Activity Scheduled Near OAK Roadways
Travelers and other Oakland International Airport (OAK) users are advised of upcoming lane closures, weather permitting. The closed sections of roadway will be clearly marked and traffic enforcement will be maintained at all times.
From 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., on Thursday, March 2 through Friday, March 31, a rolling lane closure will be in effect on the terminal loop road adjacent to the first curbside at Terminal 1 so maintenance crews can perform work on the curbside canopy. The far lane adjacent to the Terminal 1 curbside will be open at all times.
From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Friday, March 3, the left turn lane will be closed on Airport Drive at the Neil Armstrong Drive intersection. Traffic will be detoured around the lane closure. This construction is part of the multi-phase Terminal Roadway and Curbside project designed to improve terminal access and ease congestion in front of the terminals.
The Terminal Roadway and Curbside project is part of OAK's $350 million Terminal Improvement Program and includes a new, expanded curbside at the terminals to accommodate arriving and departing travelers; expanded and realigned roadways; construction of a new curbside for off-airport parking and hotel shuttle buses; covered pedestrian walkways from the terminals to the Hourly and Daily A parking lots; and a dedicated Return to Terminal lane. Program completion is expected in 2008.
OAK currently has over 200 flights a day on 13 domestic and international carriers to 42 nonstop destinations, including Atlanta, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, the Hawaiian Islands, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Mexico, and seasonal service to the Azores (Portugal), Costa Rica and Sun Valley, Idaho.
