Description

Garage and Customer Service Building
Construction begins Fall 2004.
Expected completion in Spring 2007.

The proposed design-build, seven-level 6,000-space garage is a post-tensioned concrete structure with precise architectural elements. Included in the garage construction are communications, fire alarm and safety systems along with surveillance equipment, revenue control systems and an automatic vehicle identification management system.

The first two garage floors will serve as the permanent consolidated rental car facility. Public parking will be located on the upper floors. There will also be an adjoining 60,000 sq. ft. Port of Oakland/Oakland International Airport commercial-administrative office building. A two-story rental car quick-turnaround area will also be built behind the parking structure. The number of tollbooths will increase from six to 18, along with associated queuing areas.

Future plans include construction of a pedestrian bridge to connect the garage and the adjoining BART connector to the main terminal.

Description Terminal 2 Mechanical Building
Construction begins Spring 2004.
Expected completion in Fall 2006.

The Terminal 2 Mechanical Building is a single-story concrete structure that will house the electrical/mechanical plant to serve the renovated and expanded Terminal 2 and Concourse Expansion building.
Description Site Utilities
Construction begins Spring 2004.
Expected completion in Fall 2006.

The Early Utilities/Roadway Relocation package consists of four elements: utility upgrades, demolition of the old rental car parking area and construction of the rerouted Neil Armstrong Way. The utility upgrade work consists of the upgrading of electrical power along with telecommunications and control data ducts and sanitary sewer lines.
Description Interim Rental Car Center
Construction began Sep 2002.
Completed August 2003.

Oakland International Airport's consolidated Rental Car Center houses all on-airport rental car agencies in one location. In 2007, this interim facility will be replaced by a permanent seven-level, 6,000-space rental car/public parking garage conveniently located across from the airport terminals. Located at 7600 Earhart Road, this project was jointly funded by the Port of Oakland/Oakland International Airport and its rental car companies.
