Noise Abatement Program History
For more than 30 years, Oakland International Airport has made continuous efforts to develop programs that minimize noise on surrounding communities.

Community Participation
The Oakland Airport-Community Noise Management Forum was created to address community noise concerns and make recommendations on noise related issues at the Airport.

Sound Insulation Program
State of California officials use the 65 decibel (dB) Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) contour to define an airport's noise impact area.

Noise Abatement Procedures
Air carriers and corporate jets normally depart from the main air carrier runway adjacent to the bay (South Field), except during emergencies, runway maintenance and other unusual circumstances.

Pilot Information
Courteous and responsible pilots make the difference by avoiding unnecessary residential overflights and by flying as quietly as safety permits.
