Airport
Development Program
Oakland International Airport (OAK), owned and operated
by the Port of Oakland, is moving forward with its Airport
Development Program (ADP). The ADP consists of a number
of improvement projects to comfortably accommodate 13.8
million passengers and one million tons of cargo annually.
Expected completion for these facility and roadway improvements
is 2007.
The largest piece of the ADP is the $500 million
terminal improvement project that includes a five-gate
extension of Terminal 2 with a new concourse, concessions
and waiting areas; expanded ticketing, security and baggage
claim facilities; new utilities; and a 6,000-space parking
garage. Click

terminal improvement project, future plans call for additional
gates and other associated customer service improvements.
The ADP also includes an additional $120 million for improvements
to the airport's roadways. Improvements completed in 2002
were the widening of 98th Avenue, including a new underpass
into the airport, and construction of the Doolittle Drive
and Airport Drive interchange. The project to widen the
airport's main roadway, Airport Drive, to a six-lane parkway
and connect businesses and residents on Bay Farm Island
in the city of Alameda to the airport and Interstate 880
was completed in spring 2004. Click

Originally designed for approximately eight million passengers
annually, OAK served 13.5 million passengers in 2003,
a year-over-year increase of 7.2 percent. |
